Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe is one of the most popular racing games of all time. Its a game that allows players to control their favorite characters from the Super Mario universe to race in stylized go-karts around similarly themed courses.
A competitive Mario Kart™ game will feature a 6v6 format in which players will race against one another in a four-race series. The game will fill the missing player slots with racers controlled by the computer. For more, please visit our Rules Page.
It currently features a total of 42 different playable characters. Each one has a different look, personality, and set of stats. There are three weight groups to choose from:
Light: Quick and nimble, making maneuvering around obstacles and finding shortcuts easier.
Medium: Good mix of speed and weight and can be used by all skill levels.
Heavy: Move slowly and can easily knock around lighter characters but are fast on the straights of a track.
There are 32 courses/race tracks to choose from and they are spread across 8 different cups.
The game features four different difficulties, each differing in speed. Players may select the difficulty before the race begins.
The game's new signature feature is anti-gravity racing, in which certain sections of a course allow the players to drive on the walls and ceilings. While in these sections, players who collide with other racers or special bumpers will gain a speed boost.
Mechanics
Basic mechanics of controlling your kart:
Drive/Reverse
Rocket Start (Get off to a Rocket Start at the beginning of the race)
Drift/Power slide (Drift around sharp corners with out reducing speed)
Jump Boost
Spin Boost
Spin Turn
U-Turn
Drift Brake
Players may hinder their opponents during the race by using power-ups found in items boxes throughout the race.
Characters can now carry up to two items at once, even if they do not equip the first item they find.
The game also introduced Smart Steering and Auto-Accelerate for beginners:
Smart Steering: Makes staying on the track easier by automatically steering the vehicle away from edges on the track.
Auto-Accelerate: Makes the vehicle automatically accelerate
