HSEL GeoGuessr Rules

1. Match Procedure

1.1. Supported Platforms

  • PC
  • Android/iOS devices

1.2. Series Lengths

Preseason & Regular Season - Best of 3

Playoffs - Best of 5

1.3. Player Accounts

Participants must have a GeoGuessr account with GeoGuessr Pro active on it. 

1.4. Game Lobby

All games will be played in a 1v1 duel lobby with the following settings:

  • Map: A Community World by MatePotato
    • It is recommended to like (heart) this map so it is easier to find for future use
  • Max Rounds: 10
  • Max Round Timer: 90 seconds (1 minute 30 seconds)
  • Time after guess: 15 seconds
  • Moving Allowed
    • Move: Yes | No Move: No | NoMovePanZoom (NMPZ): No
  • Panning Allowed: 
    • Move: Yes | No Move: Yes | NoMovePanZoom (NMPZ): No
  • Zooming Allowed
    • Move: Yes | No Move: Yes | NoMovePanZoom (NMPZ): No
  • Health: 6000
  • Multiplier Increase: No
  • Healing: Off
  • Allowed Communication: None

Any game played with incorrect settings will not count towards the series score and must be replayed. If a player recognizes an incorrect lobby setting, the game shall be immediately suspended/paused and a report must be submitted immediately to HSEL admins via the live chat widget in the lower right of our website.

2. Tournament Rules 

2.1. Match Streaming

See 2.13.1. "Student Streaming"

All Geoguessr streams must be from the student POV with a recommended a 3-minute delay. The Game Master function is prohibited unless otherwise approved by an HSEL admin. 

2.2. Admin Observation

HSEL admins reserve the right to monitor any player(s), for any reason, during the tournament

3. Restrictions

3.1. Disabled Content

  • Using third-party software or scripts in order to gain an unfair advantage over other
    players.
  • Using Google or other external sources of information as assistance during play.

4. Stoppage of Play

4.1 Disconnection

Disconnections that occur before the first round of a game (Move, No Move, etc.) has completed will result in a game reset. 

5. Organization Rosters

Only one roster is required for all GeoGuessr players on a school organization. Each player on the roster will be seen as their own individual participant and will be given their own match when they queue at their chosen time. Pursuant to HSEL General Rule 2.11.9.2., "Substitutions are not permitted for solo competitions"
