This article explains the key dates, times, game information, and more for the MSEL Spring Major 2023 competition. Please ensure that all team members are aware of the MSEL GENERAL TOURNAMENT RULES before registration.

New Additions

All games now feature "Conference Play"! Schools will register into one of the following conferences: 

  • Atlantic (Eastern & Central timezone) 
  • Pacific (Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, Hawaii)

Game Information

  • MSEL is 100% free to compete thanks to the GAMING CONCEPTS curriculum!
  • "Bracket Size" refers to the # of players/teams in playoffs and applies to both Champ & Redemption Road brackets (if applicable) as well as Atlantic/Pacific conferences or the 4 regions (if applicable). 
    • (Eg.) Minecraft will have a total of 192 players in playoffs, split across the Atlantic/Pacific Conferences' Champ & Redemption Road pools.

Makeup Windows

Makeup windows are changing! "Week 7" of the regular season will be "Makeup Week". Match days and queue times will remain consistent with all days & times listed above. Competitors will be able to utilize multiple queue windows if needed during makeup week.

  • The bracket sizes below are the current minimum totals and could expand if there is significant participation in a tournament. Gold bracket sizes will be determined by midseason.

  • Note: schedule is subject to change if the minimum bracket sizes are adjusted due to season participation.

**No players will be eliminated round-to-round. The winner will be determined after the culmination of all 3 rounds. Minecraft will still use the queue system. Please see the Minecraft Troubleshooting Guide to ensure players are properly set up to compete. 

 

Playoffs 101

  • Playoffs/finals are manually seeded; players will not use the queue system*.
  • You may only reschedule a playoff match if you meet all of the following criteria: 
    • Your competitor agrees to the new time in the match chat on the Generation Esports platform.
    • You notify and receive approval from MSEL admins for the new time here.
    • The match score is reported before midnight Pacific Standard Time the day prior to the next round (i.e. reschedules must not impede the bracket from advancing).
    • Finals matches cannot be rescheduled.
    • Your opponent must agree to the rescheduled time in match chat on the Generation Esports platform or the default time will remain.
  • The 3rd Place & Gold Bracket finals will occur on the same day as the tournament's Champ bracket finals match. 
  • In the case an emergency substitute is needed, the Team Administrator must reach out to competition@highschoolesportsleague.com to request permission. 
    • If you have not heard back after 24 hours of making an emergency substitute request, please contact support here
