2022 Spring Major Patch Notes

General Tournament Rules

We have made updates to the entirety of our General Rules. Below are some of the more important changes coming in the Spring 2022 Season. 

  • Registration and Participation Rule Updates
    • All participating schools must have a valid NCES ID number in order to register with HSEL and enter Major Tournaments (Fall Major, Spring Major)
    • Students participating on a school team must attend the school and be working towards graduation. 
      • Home schooled students may participate on a school team as long as they are within the district boundaries
      • Students may participate with another school team in their district, only if their own high school is not registered with HSEL. 
    • Virtual Schools are required to have a valid NCES ID numbers in order to participate in Major Tournaments
      • Students attending the virtual school may only play on their esports team if the virtual school is the only school the student is currently attending. If a student is attending a physical school as well as a virtual school then they will need to participate on their physical school’s team.
  • Recording of Matches: 
    • The Spectator rules have been updated to allow spectators to be in the lobby for the purpose of recording the match. After the match is completed, an unedited copy of the recording must be shared with the opposing team. 
  • Peripherals: 
    • SCUF Controllers and Xbox Elite Controllers will now be permitted to be used in official matches. As long as they have no modifications or attachments in use while an official match is in play. 
    • Console players in crossplay tournaments with PC players will be allowed to use a mouse and keyboard if they so choose. 
      • Keyboard and Mouse is still prohibited in console specific tournaments
  • Game Connections
    • Changing a game connection will now be prohibited once a team plays their first regular season game. 
      • This rule pertains to all players on the roster, both Starters and Substitutes.
  • Team Rosters
    • Teams may not add or remove players from their rosters while
      • The team is currently in queue for a match
      • The team is currently playing an official match
      • The team is between rounds/games of an official match
    • Roster changes are prohibited once playoffs have started. 

Valorant

  • Server Selection
    • All games will now be played on the Texas (Central) server. 
  • Spring Major Map Pool
    • Haven
    • Ascent
    • Breeze
    • Fracture
  • Spectator Rules
    • Updated to allow spectators to be in the lobby to record the match. 
      • “Spectators are permitted in game lobbies for the sole purpose of streaming their school team’s match to the School’s Twitch or Youtube channel or to record the match. Spectators may not have any communication with team members while the game is currently being played and must not be a member of the roster participating in the match. All spectator streams must be from the player point of view, or a 3rd person chase cam. The use of the skybox camera, director camera, or the point of view of another team’s player is prohibited. At the end of the match, the stream vod or an unedited copy of the recording must be shared with the other team.”
  • Tactical Pauses
    • A rule has been added prohibiting the use of tactical pauses during official matches. 

Rocket League

  • Spectator Rules
    • Updated to allow spectators to be in the lobby to record the match. 
      • “Spectators are permitted in game lobbies for the sole purpose of streaming their school team’s match to the School’s Twitch or Youtube channel or to record the match. Spectators may not have any communication with team members while the game is currently being played and must not be a member of the roster participating in the match. The use of the skybox camera, director camera, or the point of view of another team’s player is prohibited. At the end of the match, the stream vod or an unedited copy of the recording must be shared with the other team.”

Rainbow Six Siege

  • Age Restrictions
    • Per the game's developer (Ubisoft), all players must be at least 16 years old in order to participate in the tournament.

  • Spectator Rules
    • Updated to allow spectators to be in the lobby to record the match. 
      • “Spectators are permitted in game lobbies for the sole purpose of streaming their school team’s match to the School’s Twitch or Youtube channel or to record the match. Spectators may not have any communication with team members while the game is currently being played and must not be a member of the roster participating in the match. All spectator streams must be from the player point of view, or a 3rd person chase cam. The use of the skybox camera, director camera, or the point of view of another team’s player is prohibited. At the end of the match, the stream vod or an unedited copy of the recording must be shared with the other team.”

Call of Duty Vanguard

Call of Duty Vanguard has been added to the HSEL 2022 Spring Major Tournament. Games will be played as a best of 3 series in the regular season and as best of 5 series in the playoffs in the finals. 

  • Age Restrictions
    • Per the game's developer (Activision), all players must be at least 17 years old in order to participate in the tournament.  
  • Match Settings
    • Matches will be played in custom games using the CDL Ruleset in the following game modes
      • Hardpoint
      • Control
      • Search and Destroy
  • Spectator Rules
    • Spectators are permitted in game lobbies for the sole purpose of streaming their school team’s match to the School’s Twitch or Youtube channel. Spectators may not have any communication with team members while the game is currently being played and must not be a member of the roster participating in the match. All spectator streams must use CoD Caster and be from the point of view of a player on their team. The use of the skybox camera, director camera, or the point of view of another team’s player is prohibited. At the end of the match, the stream vod must be shared with the other team.

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite has been added to the HSEL 2022 Spring Major Tournament. Games will be played as a best of 5 series in the regular season and as best of 7 series in the playoffs in the finals. 

  • Match Settings
    • Matches will be played in custom games in the following game modes
      • Capture the Flag (CTF)
      • Strongholds
      • Slayer
      • Oddball

NBA 2k22

  • Match Settings
    • Matches will be played in a 1v1 tournament for the 2022 Spring Major, in a best of 3 series during the regular season and a best of 5 series during the playoffs and finals. 
    • The following settings will be used for all official matches
      • Connection: Play With Friends
      • Game Mode: Private Match
      • Game Style: Hall of Fame
      • Quarter Length: 5 Minutes

Minecraft: Survival Games

  • Match Times
    • Minecraft matches are hosted every Tuesday at 4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm, 7:30pm and 9pm Eastern Time. Players will choose one of the available windows to queue for their match.
